Arthritis & Osteoarthritis

Arthritis

Arthritis is inflammation of a joint due to wear and tear. Rheumatoid arthritis generally affects multiple joints and requires a systemic approach to treat it appropriately.
Physiotherapy involves;

  • Advice on joint care

  • Pain relief

  • Inflammation reduction

  • Referral to and communication with other professionals in rheumatology, occupational therapists etc.

Osteoarthritis

This usually affects single joints and often results from injury or repetitive use/disuse over years and responds well to mobilisation, strengthening and control of inflammation and pain.

Physiotherapists are specialised in the prescription of exercise to promote joint health and longevity

Please note that you do not need a GP/Specialist referral to attend any of our therapists.
